The Dark Bloods

“Magic was the gateway. Hunger was the price. Now we are what remains.”

Before they were vampires, they were men, knights, crusaders, warriors sworn to sacred vows.
But power is its own religion.

Mortas, once a leader of the Templar order, turned from faith to the forbidden, guided by a shadowed practitioner who promised immortality... and something more. The gift offered fractured the men who followed Mortas. It twisted their flesh, altered their blood, and bound their souls to a magic older than history itself. These were the first Dark Bloods, not bitten, not cursed, but made through bloodcraft.

They were no longer men. And they were no longer entirely mortal.

To prevent annihilation, a treaty was signed. The cost? Obedience.

Today, all Dark Bloods are bound by three inviolable laws:

  • No contact with humans without express Order approval. No feeding. No relationships.

  • No procreation without Order-issued sanction. Unauthorized offspring are considered threats.

  • No blood use outside rationing laws. Every drop consumed is tracked and assigned.

While the Salt Order controls interaction with the outside world, the Dark Bloods govern themselves, internally fractured by Houses, ideologies, and unending power plays.

But not all obey.
Blood is stirring.
And some whisper that war is coming. Again.

The Azure Sisters
(aka: The Organisation)

“Magic is not a gift. It is a privilege. And privileges can be revoked.” — The Azure Sisters

In this world, magic isn’t free—it’s controlled. Licensed. Enforced.

The Azure Sisters, also known as The Organisation, are the sole authority on the use, transmission, and discipline of magic. An ancient collective of powerful witches and warlocks, they don’t just use magic—they own it. Every sanctioned spellcaster answers to them. Every enchantment, charm, or summoning is logged, taxed, and tracked. Anyone who attempts to practice outside their reach is branded a rogue.

Unauthorized magic isn’t just a crime. It’s an existential threat to the balance the Sisters have maintained for centuries.

Their Laws of Magic:

  • Only those initiated and monitored by the Organisation may use magic.

  • Magical ability must be reported upon awakening—regardless of species or bloodline.

  • Immortality-based magic is absolutely forbidden. Even speaking certain rites aloud can carry the death penalty.

  • Minor violations may result in memory erasure, power binding, or imprisonment in magical stasis.

The Salt Order

“We are the barrier. We are the blade. We are the silence between the screams.” — Codex Salis, Chapter I

The Salt Order began not as a division of the Church but as its secret arm.
When humanity first brushed against the Dark Bloods and other unnatural forces, the Church didn’t make it public. It did what it always did: buried the truth beneath doctrine and flame.

Founded during the Inquisition and officially sanctioned during the Council of Trent, the Salt Order exists to contain, control, and conceal all non-human entities: vampires, rogue warlocks, witches, and anything else that cannot be explained by scripture. Their existence is not acknowledged. Their operations are not recorded. But their reach? It extends into nearly every major city in the world.

The name comes from the ancient belief in salt as a purifier and ward against evil. To the Order, salt is more than superstition it is doctrine. Every ritual begins with it. Every punishment ends with it.

Their Mission:

  • Monitor and regulate supernatural entities in human society

  • Maintain the Treaty between the church and the Dark Bloods to prevent open conflict

  • Imprison or eliminate any being who risks exposing the secret world to humanity

The Salt Order does not see itself as cruel.
They are the last defense between man and monster.
But as the line between sinner and savior begins to blur, and the old prophecies stir in the bloodlines they’ve tried to suppress...
Even the Order may no longer know what side of the war they’re truly on.
